Natural Bridge Mini Vacation
Recently DH had a few days off so we all decided to go adventuring. We drove westward to see the Natural Bridge, which was a lot bigger than I imagined! I think my favorite part about the trip was getting to tromp around in the woods. There are a couple trails here where we live, but I miss hiking. We also checked out the local zoo while we were there, where baby boy got to meet and feed lots of fun new critters. He was downright giggling about the first couple animals he got

Ramblings from a Girl in a Funk
How does the time get away so easily? But that's just the nature of time, I reckon. I've been in a bit of a funk, recently. Creatively and otherwise. And it just sort of pervades everything. Which annoys the soup out of me. Even working on a new design hasn't set things right, which is usually pretty exciting for me. So I'm stumped. That just means I'll carry on, though. Muddling through the days as best I can, crocheting here and there, sleeping here and there, and over-indu

Some exciting news!
Since we moved from Texas in the summer of 2016, I've really missed my crochet students. They are such a wonderful group of ladies and it was such a great excuse to get out of the house! The Army said it was time to go, though, so off we went back in an easterly direction again, the furthest east I've ever lived, in fact. I never really thought of the coast when I thought of Virginia, but we could easily take a day trip to the beach. Maybe that's something we'll get to do thi

A Year in Review
As 2016 draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on everything that has happened and surprisingly, everything that I've managed to accomplish. Many days this year were little more than a struggle through sleep deprivation. If I could make it to bedtime without bursting into tears, I considered the day a success. Other days felt like I was totally winning at life. Happy baby. Crocheting. Even pattern writing and filming and editing classes to publish. Needless to say, it's b

Mid-holiday Musings
Bah humbug. Okay, maybe not quite. But my holiday season so far has been fraught with setbacks and a deplorable lack of sleep. Which I can blame almost entirely on the baby. Truth. Now, he's never been a great sleeper, mind you. But a normal night for him includes two or three wakeups and I can manage that. With a weekend to recover each week thanks to my very patient husband. Without that? Or with more than three wakeups? Or hour plus wakeups? Zombie mom. The week after Than

Bronze, Silver, and Gold Level Patterns
So I've been designing for a few years now. Only actually writing up the patterns sporadically. Blogging about them about as often. And struggling with maintaining a consistent presence in the fiber arts community. But I want to change that. In part because I have a new tiny human to raise and I want him to see his mother be successful in a field she is passionate about. But also because having a baby hasn't changed that passion - in fact, it's gotten stronger. I just haven't

Caron Cake Mania
Y'all. I feel like... I suck at life right now. Just. Ugh! Sounds like a funny time to come back to my blog, right? Maybe. But maybe not. See, my latest "adventure" is yarny in nature, plus, well, maybe writing will be therapeutic. It's supposed to be, right? So. Let me share my woes. Yesterday I decided it sounded like a good idea to jump on the Caron Cakes bandwagon. Have you heard about this yarn yet? Long, vibrant color variations, fun names, and soft and squishy. Like ca

My Birth Story
So, I'm sure you've noticed that I haven't been around much lately, but I've been pretty busy with our bouncing baby boy! I can't say that the newborn stage is my favorite. It. is. EXHAUSTING. But at almost 16 weeks now, he's finally starting to sleep a little better and I'm starting to feel slightly more human. Sometimes. I wanted to share at least part of my story with you, though, as it was a rather special experience. My doula (her name is Sarah and if you're researching

The Ninth Month
The LAST month! You know, I just don't have anything else to say - just ... wow! So without further ado: 36 Weeks: Romaine Lettuce (baby weighs nearly 6 pounds and measures over 18.5 inches long) We are officially in the home stretch! I guess baby's length is supposedly about the same as a head of romaine lettuce? I don't know, this was another weird one for me. And don't judge my Walmart special tshirt, there. Very little fits even reasonably comfortably any more. Baby HATES

The Eighth Month
Eight months. Wow! Where did the time go!? DH has been in the field or NTC more often than not these past few months, so I reckon that has some to do with it. And The last two months nearly have been a whirlwind with me planning for, filming, and publishing my first online crochet class with Skillshare. So yeah, I guess we've been busy! It's just hard to believe we'll be crossing the finish line so soon! Before we do, though, let's take a look back at the last four weeks. 32

The Seventh Month
I know I'm a bit behind with this one, but life happens, I reckon! Let's take a look back to when my belly didn't have its own gravitational pull yet... 28 Weeks: Eggplant (baby weighs about two and a quarter pounds and measures 14.8 inches long) Boo for another icky veggie! This one's a little on the small side, but the next closest one was a pound and a half too big and I didn't see any point in wasting that much "food" - even if it is an eggplant. No, don't even try to def

A Month Lost
Wow, where did November go!? I have been deeply absorbed in an unexpected project so that's why I've been MIA lately, plus I was sick for a week, and then there was Thanksgiving... And all of a sudden the whole month was gone! But I can kind of breathe again (when baby isn't jammed up against my diaphragm anyway) so I've got some catching up to do here! It all started at the end of October when I was contacted by a gal on the content team at Skillshare, which is a "global lea

The Sixth Month
Wow. It's hard to believe how far along I am already! I wish I'd started blogging again at the beginning of this year like I planned and then I could have chronicled this amazing journey better. But I'm here now, so let's take a look back at this past month. 23 Weeks: Large Mango (baby weighs just over a pound and measures more than 11 inches long) This was the best I could do with the mango. :( Definitely not the right size! The dried mango was my backup, but I thought I'd t

Wave of Light
Today, as I celebrate entering my 27th week of this truly amazing pregnancy, I’m also taking a moment to remember the angel babies who were gone too soon. Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness/Remembrance Day is ... I just don’t have words this year. Please join me in the International Wave of Light by lighting a candle at 7pm for one hour, whatever your local time is. You can read more here or here. #theetcetera #personal

Hello again!
Ah, blogging. I love you; I love you not... Yes, it's been a while. Clearly, I'm more productive when my darling husband is deployed! At least when it comes to this particular pasttime. But I recently returned from Stitches Texas (more on that later!) and I am both exhausted and inspired. So here I am, finally relaunching my tiny little corner of the world so that I can share all my fibery and family adventures with whomever would like to listen to my rambling. Sounds exciti
