Basic Stitches Skillshare Class

This class is a compilation of my tutorials for the first four basic crochet stitches: single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet. So if you've been following along with me here on the blog for a while, the treble crochet tutorial is the only new material. Well, besides my chatty intro, of course! I'll share that below for your amusement. :)

Class Objective:

  • Learn or review and practice the four basic crochet stitches

Suggested Materials:

  • Medium or Worsted Weight yarn (4) in a light color and smooth texture makes it easier to practice stitches; Wollelfe Extrafine Merino & Silk Gradient Fingering Weight (1) yarn in Fresh, 100g (437 yards), is what I used for the Fundamentals Cowl - feel free to experient with different yarns, though!

  • H, I, or J Crochet Hooks for practice with worsted weight yarn; D - G hooks for Fundamentals Cowl with Wollelefe Extrafine Merino & Silk

  • Yarn or Tapestry Needle(s)

  • 6 or 12 Buttons (optional) for Cowl

Although I don't teach a specific project for this "class" on Skillshare, I do share the pattern for my Fundamentals Cowl, which you can see in action during the intro and conclusion videos (it's also the background for my tutorial title screens!). It's an excellent way to practice each of these four stitches if you're looking for something a little more interesting than swatches.

You can, of course, still access each of my tutorials both here on my website as well as on YouTube and my Facebook page, but I wanted to pull these four together into one place as an easy reference, especially as I build my tutorial portfolio!

I also put together some pretty pictures with the written instructions for each stitch, just for fun:

All right, as promised, here's my intro video, spring breeze, birdsong, and windchimes included! Enjoy!!

You can watch the entire class here and if you want to enroll in more of my Skillshare classes, be sure to use my referral link and you'll get your first two months for free!

Happy crocheting, y'all!
