Granny at a Rave Shawlette
This is one of those suprise designs that wasn't on my radar until the pattern was practically already written. I had a student come in one day wanting to make a granny square shawl and on my way out the door after class, I picked up this fun, color-punch yarn from a local indie dyer. It's called Marsha Mellow Goes to a Rave! I figured since we basically wrote the pattern right there in class, I might as well make one myself and see if I liked it well enough to write up a pro

Sweet Carolina Shawl
I'm back with more marling! That's right, I loved it so much in the Marl the Spectrum Cowl, that I had to do another project with it! PLUS color fades. PLUS speckles. PLUS the Fibonacci Sequence. Can you see the stars shining in my eyes yet? So here it is, the Sweet Carolina Shawl! This shawl was originally designed as a submission for an event held in North Carolina and so "Sweet Carolina Shawl" was my working title. When it wasn't accepted, I started thinking about a new na

Marl the Spectrum Cowl
Marling, in a nutshell, is simply working with two strands of yarn held together at the same time. It is also an excellent way to play with color! Mini skeins, anyone? The Marl the Spectrum Cowl combines simple color fades for subtle colorwork with the more striking look of marling done with two contrasting colors as well as some mad texture from the post stitches used to create the basketweave stitch! Bonus: reversible fabric! This design is a result of my discovery that alt

Brixel Duo
I've been itching to play with some mini skein sets for quite a while now, and although I spent some time looking at a few online, I was never quite inspired enough to purchase one. Enter Little Fox Yarn and her trunk show at my LYS Yarn Matters earlier this year. All it took was me seeing this little set in person and I knew exactly what I was going to make with it! I'm beginning to think there's actually a little spark of magic when I touch certain yarns with my very own h

Soulfire Top
I've been flirting with the idea of garment design for a while now, but I knew that I'd be dipping my toe in sooner rather than later after the class I took with Marie Green this spring. But I had no idea it would be THIS soon! I've been making notes and learning about top construction and drawing sketches and even have a couple WIPs floating around, but THIS one? This just seemed to come together like magic! From the very first moment I picked up the yarn while on a short tr

The Ultimate Market Bag
This design has been gathering dust for six years. Literally. Six. YEARS. O.O Possibly even longer than that, but Ravelry tells me that I started my prototype in September of 2012. It was an extra large size and took more than one cone of yarn, which was the original purpose: to create the strongest bag I could by using a single strand of yarn with no seaming or joining to cause weak spots. I wanted this thing to be TOUGH! And boy is it ever! I've been toting groceries (and o

Lunar Phases Cowl
Once in a blue moon, an idea is both born and realized in a nearly perfect, almost effortless way. Perhaps you might say it was meant to be. The notion for this particular design was concieved, executed, and published in less than two months, which, for me at least, is practically unheard of! But my muse knew just what she was doing it seems because now I get to release this pattern ON a blue moon! Inspired and shaped by the eight lunar phases, this cowl practically designed

Briar Rose Cowl
In case you didn't already notice, I've been skipping around a bit with my designs using yarns I received in the Tristan and Isolde Yarn Club from Round Table Yarns. It was my original plan to follow in the same order, but I should have known that I wouldn't be able to resist certain yarns! Creativity will NOT be bound by even the loosest of rules! And so, may I present to you the LAST chapter design from the story of Tristan and Isolde. The Rose of Ireland and the Briar of C

Cave of Lovers Scarflette
I love this thing. I mean, it’s just so different! And I have gotten SO many compliments on it just in the few days I've been wearing it around since finishing it! <3 Made of mostly post stitches, it’s pretty dense which equals delightfully warm for such a little thing. Actually, it’s longer than I anticipated I could make it with just one skein! It’s snug to wrap around twice, but it’s SO cozy. Adding the little charms on the points is totally optional, but they add a nice b

The Indubious Neck Warmer
This design came together very organically, which I love. I've somehow never worked with a tweed yarn before, so I was pretty excited to see this bold little hank of Doubt and Suspicion from Karen Robinson of Round Table Yarns in shipment number five of the Tristan and Isolde Yarn Club. And isn't that a great colorway name!? A muted gold with black flecks from the dye resistant nylon content, this yarn just begged for some fun black buttons. As an aran weight yarn (a bulky 4)

Moroldian Skull Cowl and Mitts
After what seems like months upon months in the making, I am super excited to release the patterns for the cowl and fingerless mitts that I made using the deeply sinister purple-y yarn from shipment number two of the Tristan and Isolde Yarn Club from Round Table Yarns! From skein... to cowl and mitts! Okay, so it took two skeins, but it worth waiting for! I got this idea in my head to create skulls in the fabric to reflect the character this colorway is named after (Morold di

Bronze, Silver, and Gold Level Patterns
So I've been designing for a few years now. Only actually writing up the patterns sporadically. Blogging about them about as often. And struggling with maintaining a consistent presence in the fiber arts community. But I want to change that. In part because I have a new tiny human to raise and I want him to see his mother be successful in a field she is passionate about. But also because having a baby hasn't changed that passion - in fact, it's gotten stronger. I just haven't
