Island Abstracts Collection
From seascapes to mountainsides with a few details in between.
These paintings were inspired by my time living and visiting across several Hawaiian islands. From the quiet shores of Molokai to the unique and majestic mountains that surround us throughout Hawaii, the inspiration is endless! And you know, of course, that I had to include a few florals, too.

Molokai Seaside Abstract I
My most abstract painting yet! I kind of adore it.
Kalaupapa Lookout in the Rain
Inspired by both a photo and a moment experienced standing on the mountainside in Molokai.
Molokai Roadside Flowers
Cowpen daisies may not have the most endearing name, and, in truth, they're considered an unwanted plant on Molokai, but they sure did offer a bright spot of color wherever they bloomed!
Leaning Palms
These remarkable trees, spotted near the Hōlei Sea Arch in the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, were all severely windblown. I was fascinated by them!
ʻŌhiʻa Lehua at Lava Fields
On my first visit to Hawaii Island (Big Island), I was absolutely blown away by the bold and tenacious beauty of these trees. They are often the first plants that begin to grow in lava fields and help to create the first new soil.
Bellows Beach
One of our favorite beaches on O‘ahu and the site of much of my inspiration (and even some of the creation) for my Ocean VAR work, including SAND and SEA and SKY.
Island Abstract II
This painting began as a study of Secret Beach, another favorite spot on O‘ahu, but... it kind of evolved into a more intuitive abstract instead!
Kahili Ginger
These huge yellow blooms have delighted me across islands through many different hikes and drives, but the photo that inspired this painting was taken while exploring the Waimea Canyon State Park on Kauaʻi.
Tunnels Beach
Another beach study, this time from our visit to Kauaʻi! We didn't stay here long because the water was really choppy that day, but the mountains rising right up out of the sand was really beautiful.
Molokai Mountainside Abstract
This was my must stubborn painting from my time on Molokai! It has a lot of layers for a tiny little postcard sized canvas, but I ended up really loving how it turned out. It feels like the mountains rising up behind Pūko‘o Beach.
Montbretia at Dusk
Ah, now this one was inspired by one of my very favorite pictures from our time in Hawaii! On our second visit to Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, Kīlauea was actually smoking in the background. It made such a cool picture!
Molokai Seaside Abstract II
Walking along the shore of Pūko‘o Beach left me filled with wonder. The colors of sea and sky, constantly shifting, mirroring the wake of the water as it ebbed and flowed, leaving behind only fleeting organic line tracings.

Molokai Residency
This collection began with my first Artist Residency experience. I spent three pivotal weeks on the southern shore of our sister island, Molokai, soaking up every bit of inspiration I could stand, taking hundreds of pictures, and filtering everything through my own creative lens to produce paintings, handspun yarn, handspun and crocheted tapestries, and, of course, a crochet pattern or two!

Ocean II VAR
Just a couple short months after completing my first Artist Residency experience on Molokai, I began a second program—and this one was online! Through the Ocean Virtual Artist Residency, I was able to work alongside eight other international artists, exploring the ocean theme together, each in our own way. I created a beautiful, large scale, three-part tapestry using my own handspun yarn that holds an incredible energy and power, just like the ocean does.
